The Gospel

The Good News of Jesus Christ

The gospel [good news] of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation. The good news is that God loved mankind so much that He provided himself a Lamb [Jesus Christ]; so that if we believe and confess that He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, We are no longer condemned, but have everlasting life.

This is good news because mankind would have been hopelessly lost were it not for His loving kindness and mercy toward us. Because of Gods love for mankind, having mercy on us He provided the means to salvation. God provided for himself a Lamb. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God. As the Lamb of God Jesus was sacrificed to pay our sin debt.

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” -John 1:29, King James Version (KJV), emphasis mine.

The Apostle Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” -Romans 1:16, King James Version (KJV), emphasis mine.

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” -John 3:14-18, King James Version (KJV), emphasis mine.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.” -1 Corinthians 15:1-6, King James Version (KJV), emphasis mine.

“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” -Romans 10:8-10, King James Version (KJV), emphasis mine.

The Apostle John wrote his Gospel so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and in believing have life through his name. Life in Christ is eternal, abundant and free!

The Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans is a treatise on salvation. As such it has become the standard.
