From a discussion about faith… (my commentary only)

Beloved you have made a case for Election as have many others before. The case for Free Will has likewise been laid out by many. Both are Biblical truths but not to the exclusion of each other, there is a tension but no conflict. God is sovereign for sure but we are created in His image.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” -Romans 10:17 KJV

An answer was given to the above comment. At this point it seems we are not talking about faith as much as debating Sovereign Generation vs. Regeneration by Faith. I offered the following, in answer to the commentary given…

Romans 10:17 only declares that faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (it does not say only Sovereignly Generated) Paul is building on the grounds of Romans 10:8-11 “But what saith it? [the righteousness which is of faith] The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. In Romans 10:8-11 Paul is building on Justification by Faith. In each chapter of Romans Paul builds on that which has already been laid out.

Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” From Romans 1:17 therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:18-25, “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”

Romans 3:21-28, Justification by Faith

From Romans 5, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” – “hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Romans 10:13, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

According to Paul, The Gospel [Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures] when received [obedience to The Faith witch we preach] manifests in Faith [gift of God] whereby we are Justified and thus receive the Holy Ghost [gift of God]

This is the New Birth, from above, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, whereby Jesus tells Nicodemus that he will only see the kingdom of God—that is, enter into eternal life and enjoy God’s reign—if he is ‘born again’.

According to John, We enter God’s kingdom by turning to God for forgiveness and cleansing. We are transformed and renewed by God’s Spirit, which is something only God can do. He healed the Israelites in the desert when they simply turned in faith to look at the bronze snake held up by Moses. Now Jesus, the Son of man, will be similarly ‘lifted up’, and all who turn to him in faith will receive eternal life.

God is Sovereign, God is the “first cause” of all things, but willful obedience or disobedience/sin is “second causes.”

God is non the less Sovereign when we respond to His will “second causes” because it is He that Wills that we respond “first cause.”

In Gods grace, because He loved the world, He provided for Redemption, gave His Son, the Lamb of God “first cause.” Whosoever believeth in him “second causes” should not perish, but have everlasting life. –The Sovereign Will of God!

It is not His Will that any should perish but that all should come to Repentance. [turn from our wicked ways to God for forgiveness and cleansing] Will all come to Repentance? No – So is His Will carried out? yes, in that He calls all to Repentance “first cause.” We respond to Him “second causes.” we are culpable for our decisions as we are created in His image [having intellect, emotion and will] and because that which may be known of God is manifest, the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead. “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

He has provided all that is necessary for Life and Godliness “first cause.” Do all possess Life and Godliness? no, why? because obedience to the call for Repentance is required “second causes.”

The above has consumed my time and efforts for the day. So I thought it well to post that witch I have labored to wright here for consideration. Not the debate but the merits of that with is the fruit of a days labor.

It is never my intention to convince you of my interpretation, rater to stir interest, in the reader to study it out for themself.

Blessings,

This week Pastor Randy Heady’s sermon was Not Everyone walks away. –John 6:60-71 –Outline

  1. Not everyone can handle the truth: 5000 to only 12; call to commitment; Truth received/rejected; Jesus calmed to be the way of salvation, Son of God, Bread of Life, Living Water, superior to Moses –2 Thes 2:3, 2 tim 3:5; Faith alone; apart from God they couldn’t believe –2 cor 4:4
  2. Everyone lives in glass houses –Heb 4:12
  3. Genuine faith can not walk away: To receive Christ is to receive The Word – Him; Lord & Savior –1 John 2:19; Faith; Experience; Christian; Lost —I did it my way.

Personal: Last week was very emotional, now that Mannheim is behind me I’m concentrating on personal growth, service and ministry.

There is a balance in life. I believe in Whole Being Health: Body, Soul and mind or Spirituality, Mental Stability and Physical fitness. What about Growth, responsibilities and purpose? Then there is Quiet Time, Study Time and The Work.

The park will soon open and responsibility will soon consume the majority of my time and efforts. I hope not only to be faithful to the Corps but also the Church, community, Bible study, service, ministry, prayer and meditation.

So I pray for a clean heart and sound mind; that all that I say and do brings glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; for wisdom, knowledge courage and strength; greater faith and dedication; for His will to be done in and through me. I trust whole in my God and know that He will provide all that is necessary for life and service!

Today

Thursday May 18th 2021

I had no intention of doing a post today. Yesterday I had a good day in the Lord. I journaled the day in great detail relating every step to walking with my Lord. There were Bible verses, Bible studies, Q & A, Notes & Outlines and Commentary. I covered Morning, Afternoon, Evening and a Benediction. There was Radio, email, Blogs and The Word. Living it out and journaling were both good for me. I enjoyed study, research and editing. I sorted a lot of things out as I worked through the day, the Journal and the processes. It took all day and resulted in a good post. It would have served as a template, agenda, purpose statement. I intended to live it out without journaling today except no post. The finished post was lost as I was trying to go live but I couldn’t let it go. I stayed up trying to reconstruct it and did go live with that. I still have all that yesterday was, the experiences, lessons and the work accomplished. I am better for it, it was a good day and a turning point.

Today wile listening to Tony I new there would be a post this morning…

I give a lot of space to BBN and DTS and both are great resources but today I would like to give space to King of Kings Network and Tony Evans.

I am a long time listener and enjoy the King of Kings Network very much. It is unique in many ways. There is a mix of music, preaching, teaching, prayer, praise, testimony, news, commentary and listener interaction. The Music is mostly Southern or Country Gospel. The Preaching is mostly local pastors from the coverage aria. There are national Teachers and or syndicated programs to round it all out. David Carr and Sister Caroline are the heart and soul of the network but the behind the scenes staff are great as well. They have different styles that complement each other very well.

From the above website: About; Listen Online!; Program Schedules; Artist Links

From the Urban Alternative: About; Dr. Tony Evans; Lois Evans; Listen; Watch; Gospel; Growing in God; Training Center

This mornings broadcast started a new series, I listened via King of Kings but it is available here. Cultivating a Spirit-Filled Mind from the series Life in the Spirit.

The more we get to know someone, the more it seems like we’re “getting into their head.” In this lesson, Dr. Tony Evans explains that the more we get to know God, the more his spirit gets into our heads. It’s a special look at what it really means to cultivate a “spiritual mind.” (cf. Romans 8:1-13)

I would like to unpack this but it’s time to go, maybe later. Romans 8 is a good study; Life in the Spirit is a great topic; I’m working on a Bible Study Project and a post The Spirit that moves me, stay tuned.

I also follow Stained by the Spirit, speaking of Life in the Spirit.

Update

Dear Friends, Family and Followers,

Please pray for me, as I know you do. I am troubled, in spirit, of late. I am largely dis functional today. Is it the Dementia, Anxiety, Anticipation, Spirit working in me or perhaps the time change.

I do not like change, most people don’t. Some deal with it better then others. I suppose it is a mater of prospective or how it affects ones life and practice. The only thing certain is change itself. Sometimes change is welcome or necessary.

Change is in the air. The time just changed. Spring is upon us and Easter around the corner. The park will soon open and life here will certainly change.

Today marks my fifth anniversary at Mannheim, tomorrow may be my last day. Although I am available until Thursday we have not been needed to help on the lot lately. When I was called back to work, after the tornado and COVID, it was just to drive through the Tuesday sale. This was not feasible but I needed to return and was able to, more or less, at that time. I will miss this staple in my life. Perhaps this is presenting as a melancholy spirit.

This week I expect to visit a dear friend, have a pastoral visit from Randy and Pastor Ron suggested he would like to come out and take me to lunch. I am changing from Bakers Grove to New Hope, where I am attending. I miss Bakers Grove even as I am finding a new home with New Hope. Perhaps this is presenting as a melancholy spirit.

Last fall I moved from Hermitage to Gainesboro; from Seven Points to Roaring River; from J. Percy Priest Lake to Cordell Hull.

For over 10 years the US Army Corps of Engineers has been a staple in my life and perhaps the most stable part of it. After resigning from Amazon IT, do to cognitive decline/impairment I went to work at Mannheim. Perhaps to prove I could still be useful in a work environment. I wasn’t nonfunctional only dysfunctional after all.

Three things has God given me to cope in these last years: Church/ministry/service, A home and work to do with the Corps and Mannheim to fund the necessities of life. It should be said that I’ve gotten by with a little help from my friends, Church family and the government.

Mannheim was consuming my time and energy for a wile. Lately I’ve been turning toward the work here in the park. Rainy days and Spirit have resulted in a flood of posts here. I find that I learning to juggle Church, The park and this website. Perhaps it’s: work, service and ministry. Ops, I forgot me and no wonder I have neglected my needs.

There is a balance in life. I believe in Whole Being Health: Body, Soul and mind or Spirituality, Mental Stability and Physical fitness. What about Growth, responsibilities and purpose? Then there is Quiet Time, Study Time and The Work.

Although responsibility will soon consume the majority of my time and efforts I hope not only to be faithful to the Corps but also the Church, Community, Bible study, service, ministry, prayer and meditation.

There is more to be said about all of the above but I need to close. I will leave you with a list of things preying on my mind: Purpose -calling -gifts -talent -work -service -balance of life -responsibilities -study -ministry -mornings -quiet-time -priorities -time management.

Blessings,

Dave the Bible Student

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

At this time, sometimes, I Write a post titled This Week. Another title I like to use is Today. Yesterday I used Update, and tomorrow…

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” –Matthew 6:34

Today’s title is a catchy way to say: while yesterday’s post was left unfinished, there is something to say about today and for tomorrow.

This Week looks forward to the events therein… The Bible Broadcasting Network

Good News Memory Verse

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. — 1 Timothy 2:5-6 Previous Verses

Conference Pulpit

Leonard Ravenhill, English Christian evangelist and author. Monday: Lost – A Sheep – A Coin – A SongSpeakers Calendar. (cf. Luke 15:1-10)

Yesterday… What happened yesterday that is effecting today? What did you say, think or do? What did you learn? Today… How are you applying what you learned yesterday? Tomorrow… Perhaps we can expand our thinking to consider the same with regards to the past, present and future…

Live for today, putting the past behind you and looking forward to tomorrow. Prepare for the future as you live today learning from the past. Take One Day at a Time, do the best you can… Think about it… My Thoughts…

Purpose -calling -gifts -talent -work -service -balance of life -responsibilities -study -ministry -mornings -quiet-time -priorities -time management.

Sin -death -separation from God: Original Sin (cf.Ephesians 2:1-10) vs Ongoing Sin (cf. 1 John 1:8-2:2)

lost -dead in sin and transgressions -Separated from God -eternity in Hell.

Redeemed – made alive in Christ -indwelt by the Holy Spirit -in fellowship with God -eternal life.

Sin -death -separation from God -out of fellowship – chastisement vs restoration

The three tenses applied to Salvation: I have been saved from the penalty of sin; I am being saved from the bondage of sin; I will be saved from the results of sin. All by Grace through Faith/trust in Christ alone. Signed, sealed and delivered – although we are working out salvation, in the present, God is faithful and from His prospective it is finished. Justification -Sanctification -Glorification.

Today usually is used to tie into history, culture, daily tasks, the days plans or the events of the day…

This morning the alarm rang a little before 6:am (CST), I had not sprung forward for Daylight Savings Time. Yesterday I had made the necessary provisions to be in my place on time for services, save that one thing.

I turned on the radio, tuned to King of Kings Network, and made the morning coffee. I heard SRN News and listened to Ron Ralph, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Carthage TN.

Something came to mind, I was compelled to wright, fired up the old Dell and started a post. I don’t recall the original thought but it was working out to be my testimony.

The radio was still on and David Carr had just started The Sunday School Hour. He mentioned the time change. I glanced at the clock, as I had lost track of time, It was time to leave the house in order to be on time and I was not ready.

I did make Sunday School. We finished up the lesson from 1 Thessalonians 5:11-28, Final Counsel and Comfort. Paul was laying out how to live; looking for Christ’s coming. If you will, He was laying out how to live today (in the present) in light of the past, looking forward to the future. He was talking to The Church, Sinners saved by Grace. Having been Saved from the penalty of sin they were working out salvation, in the present and looking toward the future return of Christ. Edify -know -esteem -warn -comfort -support -be patient -rejoice -render not evil -follow the good -pray without ceasing -give thanks -quench not the Spirit -prove all things -hold fast -sanctify (spirit, soul and body).

Bro Jimmy gave the sermon today from Romans 6. It was an excellent presentation. You can listen to it next week if you like. Past Sermons can be found on the Church’s web site. He covered the kind of things already alluded to herein.

The Christian and sin

We have been baptized into Christ. Our baptism acted out our dying to sin and rising to new life with Christ. We are far too closely identified with Jesus to carry on sinning. We have died to sin. In theory, we can no more sin than a dead body can!

Of course, we still have free will. We can sin if we want to, but it will be out of keeping with our Christian character. But look at it positively: instead of letting sin dictate our actions, we are free to do right! And which master do we prefer? The only wage sin ever paid was death. But now God gives us eternal life. To serve him is perfect freedom. -from the Bible Guide via Biblia by Faithlife. Just in case that’s not what you see.

Today is The Lord’s Day, (a day of rejoicing in the Lord) yesterday was The Sabbath (a day of rest and reflection). Yesterday is gone, today is fainting and tomorrow may not be mine. I Know Whom I Have Believed; I know who holds the future!

Clean Up On Isle 5…

This morning it dawned on me that the reader may not have the intended experience with regard to Hypertext. In my last post, for instance, I linked to Biblia by Faithlife. I have Logos 9 on my MacBook and an account with Faithlife. It seams that what is available to me may be different than for the reader. Using my Smartphone, I went to that post and clicked on the Hypertext. Now the phone is not logged in to WordPress so I see what anyone else would see, well almost. I write in WordPress Editor via Firefox on a Dell laptop running Linux. I was reminded that mobile sites render differently. My phone was logged into my Faithlife account so I did not satisfy my curiosity.

Speaking of intended experience… “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” –Genesis 50:20

While clicking on the Hypertext I found a broken link. It was just a link to a Duck Duck Go search for The Day of the Lord. I fired up that old Dell and fixed that broken link and checked the rest of them. I use to do that, as a mater of processes and still should. With regards to editing there are a lot of Flies in the Ointment. There is a lot of Housekeeping to be done through the domain; changes to be made; static pages to update. But where is the time. –Redeeming the Time

This brings to mind, the ongoing conversation, What is the purpose of this blog, this site, the domain and my life and service. ADHD brings me to maters of Stewardship, Time Management — Balance in Life — Responsibilities (personal, family, church, work, study and service) — Priorities (prayer, Bible, music, radio, email, blogs, YouTube) —Best laid plans of mice and men — Not my will but yours my lord –Not my work but yours my lord — Open The Eyes Of My Heart oh Lord — Let him who hath ears hear — May all that I say and all that I do bring honor and glory to you my Lord.

I have said, “I am not a blogger nor do I want to be one,” yet here I am. I am not a Pastor, Teacher or in full-time vocational ministry. I am not ordained and do not hold a thD from DTS.

Well, in the providence of the Lord, many Bible study seeds have been planted herein but alas it is past time to wrap.

My favorite name for myself is Dave the Bible Student. My given name is David and on WordPress I am known as Bible Student, so then I am Dave the Bible Student. In business I was Dave the PC Doc. (No, PC does not stand for Politically Correct, although I would like to Doctor that.) as I was a Computer Technician.

I am a Sinner Saved by Grace, a Christ follower, Ambassador and Bondservant.

By what authority then do I go forth? “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” –Matthew 28:19-20

I retain my amateur standing as a Blogger, Writer, Lay Teacher, Theologian and as a Bible Student. I holy trust in God, alone, for all that is necessarily for life and service! (cf. 2 Peter 1:1-21)

Word

One of the tools on the Bible Study Start Page (BSSP) is the King James Bible Online. If I want to put a direct quote in a post this is were it comes from. The KJV is in the public domain so no worries. I like to then link the reference address to another tool like Bible Hub, also on the BSSP, where the verse displays in many translations and commentaries.

Verse of the Day for Friday, March 12, 2021

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
2 Peter 3:10 (KJV)

Example…

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” –2 Peter 3:10

Note: If you click on the text of the Verse of the Day you will be transported to a very nice presentation including comments and discussion.

2 Peter 3:10 will Preach! The topic: The Day of the Lord is a good study. “the works that are therein shall be burned up” –our works are as filthy rags (cf. Isaiah 64:6) -works: not of works — we know salvation is by grace through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: lest any man should boast. (cf. Ephesians 2:1-10)

Note: I linked to Biblia by Faithlife this time because it handles a range of verses better. It also displays commentary. You can change translations as well as commentary. Faithlife is the company behind Logos Bible software, used by many in vocational ministry. It is pricey but included in your tuition, at least with a thM degree from DTS. The logos Web App is on the BSSP and you can get some resources free from Faithlife and Logos.

Now, what I came here to do, I get in email from Thomas Nelson the KJV verse of the day…

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” –2 Peter 1:4 (cf. 2 Peter 1:1-21)

partakers of the divine nature: divine nature -A nature is that which makes something what it is, those attributes that define it. For example, the divine nature is marked by divine attributes such as omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, self-existence, eternity, and so on. To have a divine nature is to possess all the attributes that make God who He is.

By these ye might be partakers: by these -all things that pertain unto life and godliness.

Exceeding great and precious promises: For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately it is time to go, there is so much more to unpack here. We have looked, in brief, at 2 Peter 1 and 3 -Wonder what is in chapter 2? false prophets — false teachers — judgment and damnation — dogs and sows, Oh My. Read all about it 2 peter is short and a good read. You might want to study both of Peter’s epistles. You can find study tools; links to sites with commentaries, notes and outlines on the BSSP. Here is a study found on Bible Study Tools.
