Sound Doctrine

To continue from yesterday, lets revisit Dr Chafer’s words…

Bible doctrines are the bones of revelation and the attentive Bible student must be impressed with the New Testament emphasis on “sound doctrine” (Mt 7:28; Jn 7:16,17; Ac 2:42; Ro 6:17; Ep 4:14; 1Ti 1:3; 4:6,16; 6:1; 2Ti 3:10,16; 4:2-3; 2Jn 9-10). Not knowing the doctrines of the Bible, the child of God will be, even when sincere, “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”; the many well-meaning believers who are drawn into modern cults and heresies being sufficient proof. On the other hand, the divine purpose is that the servant of Christ shall be fully equipped to “preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” —Lewis Sperry Chafer (Author’s Introduction, Major Bible Themes)

“And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” —Matthew 7:28, Bible Hub —Matthew 5:1-7:29, Biblia

“Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” —John 7:16, Bible Hub —John 7:14-44, Biblia

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” —Acts 2:42, Bible Hub —Acts 2:42-47, Biblia

“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.” —Romans 6:17, Bible Hub —Romans 6:1-23, Biblia

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” —Ephesians 4:14, Bible Hub —Ephesians 4:14-16, Biblia

“As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.” —1 Timothy 1:3 , Bible Hub —1 Timothy 1:3-11, Biblia

“If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.” —1 Timothy 4:6, Bible Hub —1 Timothy 4:1-10, Biblia

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” —1 Timothy 4:16, Bible Hub —1 Timothy 4:11-16, Biblia

“Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.” —1 Timothy 6:1, Bible Hub —1 Timothy 5:1-6:2, Biblia

“But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.” —2 Timothy 3:10, Bible Hub —2 Timothy 3:10-13, Biblia

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” —2 Timothy 3:16, Bible Hub —2 Timothy 3:14-17, Biblia

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” —2 Timothy 4:2, Bible Hub —2 Timothy 4:1-5, Biblia

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” —2 John 9, Bible Hub —2 John 7-11, Biblia
