Who’s Your Daddy

I have oft heard the term who’s your daddy. The stage is set, perhaps at the basketball net, someone sinks the ball with an amazing shot and proclaims “who’s your daddy!” This is not a question of paternity but a declaration of dominance. Who dominates your life? Jesus once told some scribes and Pharisees, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.” (cf. John 8:44), from the discourse on the mount of Olives in John 8. Paul once said, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (cf. Galatians 5:16) “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance” (cf. Galatians 5:19:23)

It is a sad fact, that in this day and time, many a child simply dose not know who’s their daddy. Doug Stringer wrote a book about the fatherless world that we’ve created, Who’s Your Daddy Now?Customer ReviewArmchair Interviews. My heart goes out to single mothers and to children with no earthly paternal influence to guyed their way, to trust and call daddy! “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:1-4) (cf. Exodus 20:1–21Deuteronomy 5:1–23)

My earliest memories are the days and times lived at the Woodstock Children’s Home. At one point it was my practice to go to a friends house, after school, to watch Leave it to Beaver. Wally, Beaver and my friend lived differently. The question at hand was who’s my daddy. God is the Father to the fatherless. (cf. Psalms 68:5) “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14:18)

Jesus said, “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” (Matthew 6:9), (RE: The Lord’s Prayer) Is God your father? Remember that discourse on the mount of Olives in John 8 — They answered him, “We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?” “They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” “Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.” (cf. Romans 10:1-3) “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)
